Otsuka
Minami Otsuka is a Japanese artist based in London, working in drawing and painting. Informed by ten years of ballet training, her practice explores the choreography of space through gesture, floating marks and melting colours.
Her experiences of living in Japan, Brazil, and the UK shape her sensitivity to light, sound, weather and atmosphere. Working with water, pigment and surface, she balances intention with spontaneity. Her work draws on Japanese calligraphy, sumi-e and the spatial qualities of shoji screens to explore the shifting boundaries between visibility and concealment, and the fluid interplay between interior and exterior, where the two dissolve into one another and flow across their boundaries.
